Plenum Feed with Room Return

The CONTEG Plenum Feed with Room Return solution optimises the use of cooled air by directing the cooled air directly from the raised floor to the equipment within the rack. The rack sits onto a special positioning welded frame which replaces a standard 600 x 600 floor tile. A deflector located in the bottom of the rack directs the cold air to the front of the rack to be drawn through the equipment mounted inside.

Cooled air is kept within the rack by a solid front door which can be either glass or metal depending on preference and hot exhaust air is rejected into the room through a super-vented rear door ensuring that cold supply and hot exhaust air-streams remain separated leading to more efficient use of the cooled air and elimination of hot spots.

A variable flowrate Louvre can be installed to control air-flow rates or shut air supply off if no equipment is fitted into the rack. One significant advantage of the Plenum Feed Room Return system is the flexibility of floor planning. Dedicated hot and cold aisles are no longer required as the rack contains and separates the hot and cold airstreams. Direct rack cold air feed requires the use of air-separation frames for maximum efficiency.

Plenum feed with room return optimises the use of cooled air by directing the cooled air directly from the raised floor to the equipment within the rack.

Separation frame is used for minimizing by-pass airflow between columns and extrusions. Thanks to this function is separation frame basic feature when cool zone inside the rack is planned. The rack is easily and stably mounted to a raised floor by using the positioning welded plinth. Positioning plinth has welded structure and thanks to its size 600 x 600 mm replaces a standard floor tile. Using positioning welded plinth sit not only the rack onto the raised floor but also helps to lead the cold air directly to the rack.

Deflector is located in the bottom part of the rack and is used to lead the cold air directly to the cold zone in front part of a rack. Deflector can be equipped with louvre which helps to control air-flow rates or shut air supply off if no equipment is fitted into the rack.

Recommended Plenum feed with room return rack design
Cold air enters the rack directly through the plinth and is directed using an air deflector to the area in front of the uprights. An air separation frame and solid front door (glass or steel) is then used to create a "cold zone" in front of the equipment inside the rack. A super-vented rear door allows warm exhaust air to easily exit the rack.

  • Front glass door with multipoint swivel handle lock
  • Rear vented door (83% perforation rate) with multipoint swivel handle lock
  • Removable sheet steel side panels with lock
  • Two pairs of 19" vertical sliding extrusions
  • Top and bottom openings for cable entry; removable top plate (only RDF racks)
  • Adjustable feet; combined with positioning welded frame DP-PRF-ROF-60/60

Product / project Support:
When preparing a complex network project, consultants, designers or the end user IT department can benefit from the advice or support of our product managers. Incorrect estimation of the requirements for a project, whether under-sizing an air-conditioning system or simply failing to allow adequate space for cable management, can have a drastic impact on the reliability of the installed equipment and the functionality of the facility as a whole.

With our product managers´support you will be able to select the most suitable rack type for installation of any instrumentation, its power supply, cooling or just maybe only the correct system of cable management.
