The Hot/Cold Aisle approach is considered to be the norm for data center designs. Racks are aligned front to front and cold air is delivered using the raised floor as a cold air handling space (plenum). The ANSI/TIA/EIA-942-A (Data Center) standard recommends a cold aisle width of 1.2 meters (which is equivalent to two-floor tiles) to allow a perforated tile to be placed in front of each cabinet which allows for cold air to be delivered to the cabinet front.

Racks are aligned front to front and cold air is delivered using the raised floor

Because the raised floor is being used to deliver the cold air it is essential that all openings within the floor, such as for the passage of cables, be sealed using a double brush grommet (DP-KP-KAR-A). This helps to maintain static pressure within the floor and minimizes the amount of air that can escape the floor in unintended or undesired locations.

Recommended Open Cold/Hot Aisle Configuration

Parameter Value
Recommended configuration

The Front vented door of racks enables perfect passage of the cold air through the door to the interior space of the rack (to the IT equipment air intake). The hot air is well exhausted through the rear vented door. We recommend using passive parts for air handling—blinding panels, separation frames, etc.

Front Vented door, perforation rate 86 %, with multipoint lock, and universal key

Rear Vented door, perforation rate 86 %, with multipoint lock, and universal key

Removable side panels with a lock and universal key

Two pairs of 19" vertical extrusions

Top and bottom cable entries, removable top cover

Height adjustable feet

Alternative solution In cases where racks cannot be used, we can offer an alternative solution with 19" open frames RSG4. The load rating is up to 1 500 kg, which is suitable for heavy servers. Open frames are also suitable for testing and service centers.
Recommended cooling systems for Contained Cold Aisle It is possible to use a central air cooling system or decentralized CoolTeg units. We can arrange both solutions for you using our own products or products of our specialized partners. Do not hesitate to contact us—we are ready to assist your current project.
